Genesis 23: Kids
The Gift of a Special Place
Genesis 23:4 - "Here I am, a stranger and a foreigner among you. Please sell me a piece of land so I can give my wife a proper burial."
Do you remember when you're in a new place and you don't know anyone? It can be a little scary, right? Our friend Abraham felt the same way in Genesis 23. His wife, Sarah, had just passed away, and he needed a place to bury her, but there was a problem: Abraham was not from there; he was a foreigner.
Abraham could have felt alone and sad. Instead, he trusted God and asked the people living there if he could buy a piece of land. He didn't demand it or take it by force. He asked politely and respectfully, showing us a beautiful example of how to behave even when we're feeling sad or scared.
And guess what? The people agreed! They respected Abraham and even called him a "mighty prince." Abraham was able to give Sarah a proper burial because he trusted God and treated others with kindness.
Sometimes, we might be in new or difficult situations, like the first day at a new school or trying a new sport. It can be scary, but remember Abraham's story. Trust in God, and treat others with respect and kindness. Just like with Abraham, God is with us, helping us along the way!
