Genesis 34: Kids
When Anger Takes Over
Genesis 34:13 - "But since Shechem had defiled their sister, Dinah, Jacob’s sons responded deceitfully to Shechem and his father, Hamor."
Today's story is a little bit serious, but very important. In Genesis 34, we meet Dinah, Jacob's daughter. Shechem, a prince, does something very wrong to her. Dinah's brothers get very angry. But instead of finding a peaceful solution, they let their anger take control and do something horrible.
Imagine you're playing, and someone breaks your favorite toy on purpose. You would feel very upset, right? It's normal to feel angry when someone does something wrong. But what's not cool is when we let that anger control us. Dinah's brothers let their anger take control, and they made a very bad choice.
The Bible teaches us in Ephesians 4:26, "And 'don’t sin by letting anger control you.' Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry." This means, it's okay to be angry, but don't let it make you do bad things. Instead, talk about it with your parents or a trusted adult. They can help you handle your feelings better.
Remember, God wants us to show love and kindness, even when we're angry. So next time you're mad, remember to stay cool and ask for help if you need it.
