Genesis 4: Kids
The Gift from the Heart
Genesis 4:4-5 - "Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected."
Hey there, little adventurers! Today we’re zooming into Genesis 4, where two brothers, Cain and Abel, bring gifts to God. Cain was a farmer, and Abel was a shepherd. They both brought something from their work as a gift to God.
Have you ever made a gift for someone? Maybe a drawing for your mom, or a cool Lego tower for your friend? It feels good to give something you've made, right? But what if you just grabbed a piece of trash and gave it as a gift? That wouldn’t feel the same, would it?
That's what happened with Cain and Abel. Abel gave the best he had to God, the top-notch lambs. But Cain didn't. He just gave some of his crops, not necessarily the best ones. God saw their hearts and was pleased with Abel's gift but not Cain's.
God loves it when we give Him our best, not because He needs our gifts, but because it shows that we love Him! Just like you'd want to give your best drawing to your mom or dad, God wants us to give Him our best too. So, whether it's obeying your parents, being kind to your siblings, or working hard at school, remember to do your best as a gift to God. He sees and loves your heart for Him!
