Genesis 10: Parents
One Family, Diverse Expressions
Genesis 10:32 (New Living Translation)
"These are the clans that descended from Noah’s sons, arranged by nation according to their lines of descent. All the nations of the earth descended from these."
My favorite part of family reunions is trying to fit all of us into a single picture frame to capture the moment we all decided to get together. The grandparents are in the middle of course, and all of the kids and grandkids fan out from that centerpoint. I love to show my kids these pictures because it demonstrates how one couple can produce a large and diverse family that ventures across the country and even around the world! The more diverse our family gets, the more fascinating the picture becomes.
Genesis 10:32 offers a similar narrative, telling us how diverse nations emerged from one family - Noah's. Despite the diversity, each nation carries a piece of the original family, echoing God's image in unique ways.
As parents, it's our privilege to teach our children about the beauty of God's diverse creation. In an increasingly global world, we can raise our children to appreciate different cultures and races, seeing in them the handiwork of our Creator.
Whether it's trying a new cuisine, learning about a different culture, or making a friend from another country, remind your child that all of humanity, in its wonderful diversity, springs from one family under God. This can nurture a spirit of unity and love in their hearts, honoring God's creation in its many hues.
