Genesis 32: Students
Facing Our Fears with Faith
Genesis 32:7-8 (New Living Translation): "In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well. He thought, 'If Esau comes and attacks one group, the other may escape.'"
High school can be a place of both excitement and fear. There might be moments when you fear being judged by your peers or are worried about an upcoming test. In Genesis 32, Jacob also experienced fear as he was about to meet his brother Esau after many years.
Jacob was afraid, not because of a test or judgment from peers, but because the last time he saw his brother, he had wronged him. Now, he feared Esau might want revenge. He planned and prepared, but he also turned to God in prayer, asking for protection and reminding God of His promises.
This story teaches us that it's okay to feel afraid and that planning and preparing is good, but we must not forget to also turn to God. He is our ultimate source of protection and the one who fulfills His promises. Whenever you feel overwhelmed with fear or worry, remember to reach out to God in prayer, trust in His promises, and face your fears with faith.
Pause & Pray:
1. Ask God to help you remember His promises whenever you feel afraid or overwhelmed.
2. Pray for God’s protection and guidance in all areas of your life.
3. Request God’s peace to replace your fears and worries.
